OMIK Scholarships Make a Difference
Bisi Ideraabdullah, EL2CF
It is wonderful and fabulous that our donations to the OMIK Scholarship Fund are paying off big time for children of color who are often strapped for cash.
My daughter and son received OMIK scholarships when we returned to the
U.S. after having lost almost everything in the war in Liberia. Those funds
were greatly needed and a big help to our children and us.
Anyway here is some more good news. Two of our children, Folami and
Shomari, have graduated. I did tell them to write and tell OMIK that they
had graduated, but I am not sure if they did. They are grown now and they
remind me of that all the time. So I’m writing to again thank OMIK for
having a scholarship program and for giving scholarships to my children.
My daughter Folami Ideraabdullah graduated last year with a PhD in
genetic science and is now a scientist at the University of Pennsylvania.
My son Shomari Ideraabdullah graduated last year also with a degree in
aerospace engineering and he is now working at Boeing in Macon, Georgia.
Dale Zigbou, who we recommended for a scholarship from OMIK, also graduated
as an engineer and is working in North Carolina. Pictured above are Shomari
with sisters, Folami (l.) and Omotayo (r.).
Oh and in case Mahmoud didn't tell you, Omotayo, our oldest daughter graduated from med school in May. She is doing her residency at Tulane University. (Pictured at right are Abdullah (KB2VKG), Folami, and Bisi.)
It would be great to know what became of the children who are given scholarships through OMIK thanks to our donations. It would certainly encourage more people to donate.
