Special Events Station to Commemorate the Tuskegee Airmen
Leon Lewis, NA9Y, announces that the FCC has approved a request for a special event amateur radio station, W4T, to commemorate the grand opening of the Tuskegee Airmen national historic site.
Operating Frequencies
- Voice: 3.908MHz, 7.228MHz, and 14.290MHz
- Morse code: 7.108MHz and 14.140MHz
W4T will be on the air in Tuskegee, Alabama on October 10, 11, and 12, 2008 with Leon as control operator.
You may recall that Leon is the publisher of a book about the Tuskegee Airmen. The Story before the Glory chronicles events between 1881 and 1941 that led to the founding of The Tuskegee Airmen. The book also helps the reader understand how Booker T. Washington's prestige influenced the selection of Tuskegee, Alabama as the site for training Negro Airmen during WWII.
